United Way receives Grant to Expand Services for Returning Iraq and Afghanistan Veterans

Wichita Falls, TX (January, 2010) - The North Texas Area United Way has been awarded a grant from the TRIAD (Texas Resources for Iraq/ Afghanistan Deployment) Fund of the Dallas Foundation in the amount of $96,351. The funding will allow the North Texas Area United Way to partner with others in the community to provide a comprehensive support program for active and former military personnel serving in Iraq and/or Afghanistan and their families.

The United Way will provide resources through 2-1-1, their centralized information and referral system, in which military families will receive help with unmet needs in the areas of emergency assistance for basic needs and transitional assistance with training and job placement services.

“It is important that we are able to assist these brave men and women as they return home.” said Diana Phillips, President and CEO of the North Texas Area United Way. "We are proud to be able to serve those who have given so much to our country and who now need our help in their transition to civilian life."

The TRIAD fund was established with a grant from the Iraq-Afghanistan Deployment Impact Fund at the Los Angeles-based California Community Foundation, who, in 2007, awarded $15 million to three Texas community foundations to support the efforts of non-profits to provide needed services for OEF/OIF families. Since that time, the three Texas foundations have received an additional $15 million to continue the work.
