United Way Campaign Kick-off Cook-off

WICHITA FALLS, TX (September 9, 2009) – North Texas Area United Way kicks off its annual fundraiser campaign with a community-wide event at the MPEC Bridwell Ag Barn on Thursday, September 10, 2009 at 6:00 pm. The free admission event features a friendly but fierce cook-off competition between local companies for Best Chili and Best Brownie Recipe bragging rights.

The Program:

6:00 pm – Event opens (free admission)

  • Attendee taste-testing of chili and brownie recipes
  • Local celebrity judging of recipes
  • Attendees vote for their favorite in the People’s Choice category ($1 per vote)
  • Beverages by Bud Light and Coca-Cola Bottling, event sponsors

7:00 pm – Program

  • Campaign Chair Dub Brackeen of Citibank recognizes campaign volunteers and announces Pacesetter Campaign results
  • Awards presentation for Best Chili, Best Brownie, Texas Heat, People’s Choice and Showmanship (decoration of booth)

“As we begin this annual campaign, I am amazed and appreciative of the compassion and caring that our communities continue to show.” Dub Brackeen said when commenting on individual and workplace support. “We are much stronger when we work together, and as a community we are tackling the biggest issues around the areas of education, income and health.” Dub Brackeen serves as the 2009 United Way Campaign Chair.

The United Way campaign consists of investments by North Texas residents through a one-time gift or payroll deduction and is supported by hundreds of local companies. Funds raised during the campaign go back into the community to address issues in the areas of Education, Income and Health.
