Volunteers Needed for Free Tax Filing Program
Wichita Falls, TX (October ,2009) – For the sixth consecutive year, the North Texas Area United Way will be hosting Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) sites at several locations throughout the North Texas area.
More than 100 volunteers are needed to prepare tax returns from January 30 – April 15, 2010. United Way hopes to coordinate and operate 5 sites this tax season. The program is designed to help low to moderate-income working families and individuals prepare their income tax forms, take advantage of the Earned Income Tax Credit and other tax credits while avoiding fees associated with commercial preparers.
All VITA volunteers will receive free tax preparation training and must become certified to prepare income tax returns. No previous accounting or tax experience is needed to volunteer and flexible training options are available.
“The training not only benefits our VITA customers, it also helps the volunteers themselves, allowing them to learn more about their own personal taxes while providing a valuable service to the community,” said Lana Winfrey, VP, Community Initiatives for the United Way. “Anyone can volunteer. Our volunteers encompass individuals from college to middle age to seniors. We need volunteers in several areas, particularly if they are bi-lingual,” said Winfrey.
For more information on becoming a volunteer call Lana Winfrey at the United Way office at 940-322-8638 or email her at lwinfrey@ntauw.org .
