Title: Director of Early Childhood Education
Status: Full time
Reports to: VP, Community Impact
Description:
The Director of Early Childhood Education is a full-time professional grant funded position that will develop, implement and coordinate systems change strategies in the North Texas Area as it relates to improving the quality of early childhood education and improving life outcomes for children and families
Primary Responsibilities
- Coordinate public awareness strategies, working with all media outlets including television, radio, billboard and print.
- Develop events and marketing for engaging legislators, business community and potential donors around investing in early childhood education
- Coordinate with 2-1-1 to educate parents on the benefits of quality early childhood education
- Grant writing
- Supervision of VISTA’s and other staff
- Coordinate with education community to develop professional development programs and opportunities for early childhood educators
- Develop and implement mentor/coaching program in our community for improving quality among early childhood providers
- Monitor funded partner agencies in the area of early childhood
- Measure outcomes and document community, coalition and United Way progress toward goals
- Work with diverse stakeholders ranging from academia, childcare providers, United Way board, community volunteers, not-for-profit and for-profit sectors
- Engage United Way Worldwide, local United Way’s and regional/national foundations to partner in our work
- Serve as staff liaison to Early Childhood Coalition, coordinating meetings (such as recording minutes, distributing minutes, keeping the committee informed, etc.) and communicating with volunteers.
- Assist with development, localization and distribution of childhood educational materials.
- Monitor Imagination Library program inclusive of data entry, fund attainment and material distribution
- Coordinate with UCLA on Early Development Instrument (EDI) and convene community coalitions around improving vulnerabilities found through the EDI
- Develop a logic model for improving the quality of early childhood education across the North Texas Area
- Develop and monitor area budget
- Research of best-practices related to early childhood education
- Coordination with United Way Resource Development staff, impact councils and marketing staff
Educational and Experience Requirements
- Must have a Bachelor’s degree in social work, psychology, early childhood education, public administration or equivalent degree. Master’s degree preferred. Combination of experience and education can fulfill master’s degree preference.
Other Experience Preferred
- Excellent communications skills
- Experience with non-profits a plus
- Experience with best practices and research for children birth-five
- Experience with state early childhood education standards and NAEYC accreditation
- Public speaking
- Event coordination
- Logic model development/strategic planning
- Experience working with or serving on boards
- Excellent customer service skills
- Knowledge of windows operating systems and Microsoft office suite
