Official Rules

Chili Contestants:

Chili will be prepared off site. All contestants agree to submit only original recipes. Chili contestants agree to cook a minimum of 5 lbs. of chili. Meat can be “chili grind” or regular ground meat. Chili should not contain fillers (such as beans, macaroni, rice, hominy, or other similar ingredients) for the official contest. However, contestants may add filler after the judging to “stretch” or change their chili recipe for event attendees. Chili will be judged on color, aroma, taste, consistency and after taste. This is not a sanctioned CASI event. Set up begins at 4:00pm. All contestants must be willing to sample their own entries at the request of an official of the contest. Judging of all categories will begin at 6:00pm. Judges’
decisions are final.

Cobbler Dessert Contestants:

All contestants agree to submit only original recipes. Cobblers will be prepared off site and will be judged on presentation, aroma, taste, consistency, and after taste. Set up begins at 4:00pm. All contestants must be willing to sample their own
entries at the request of an official of the contest. Judging of all categories will begin at 6:00pm. Judges’ decisions are final.

Cornbread Contestants:

All contestants agree to submit only original recipes of either pan fried or baked cornbread. Cornbread will be prepared off site and will be judged on presentation, aroma, taste, consistency, and after taste. Set up begins at 4:00pm. All
contestants must be willing to sample their own entries at the request of an official of the contest. Judging of all
categories will begin at 6:00pm. Judges’ decisions are final.

Contestants Should Bring:

Chili, cornbread, and/or cobbler dessert entry, serving utensils, extension cords and any condiments you wish to serve (optional). Chili contestants should serve their chili from a crock pot, electric roaster oven, or similar electronically supplied heat source; no charcoal or propane will be allowed inside the building. Items provided by the United Way include:
8’ table, two chairs, electrical outlets, tasting cups, tasting spoons, and drinks during the event.

Decorating Your Area:

Contestants may decorate their area and dress in costume if they wish to compete for Best Showmanship Award. The theme is western.

Schedule:

4:00pm Set-up time
6:00pm Event opens & judging begins
7:30pm Program & announcement of winners
