Message from Dub Brackeen, 2009 Campaign Chair

I have always believed our journey through life and the legacy we leave behind is not about what we do for ourselves, but what we do for others along the way – and how we make their lives better.

If you have been blessed you have an obligation to share those blessings with those in need whether it is through monetary means, giving of your time, or sharing your knowledge. The United Way is a means to that end, by mobilizing caring people in our community, people who share that same philosophy, and allowing us to have an even greater impact on more lives.

The dynamics of the lives and needs of the families in our community have drastically changed in recent years, which has led to changes in how the community aspires to meet those needs. Donors have demanded that there be greater focus on identifying root causes and solutions to problems that affect families, which has led to changes in how programs are selected and funds allocated.

Our goal is to create change with a long-term perspective that prevents problems from happening in the first place by funding programs with measurable outcomes focused around Education, Income and Health – the building blocks to quality education and a stable job.

As the Campaign Chair I am truly blessed to be able to work with such a committed and passionate group of individuals. If you do not currently volunteer I would encourage you to do so, as you will be blessed far greater than those you help.

Thank you to all who work tirelessly to meet the needs of our community and to the donors who support the work. I encourage you to open your hearts and your checkbooks and give generously in 2009.
